Winterizing Your Lawn and Equipment, Part 3: Cleaning the Mower
The next step in preparing your lawn mower for its winter hibernation is to clean the engine housing well.
Turn the mower on its side. Hose it down to soften dried grass and dirt; use a stick to scrape off any stubborn materials. Scrub with a soft brush and hot soapy water to remove greasy matter. Be sure to avoid spraying directly on air filter or into any openings. Rinse, and allow to dry thoroughly.
Remove rust by rubbing area with steel wool (be sure to use gloves). If you don’t have a garage, watch the video for tips on safely storing your mower outdoors over winter.
Depending on where your lawn mower is stored can determine whether you stabilize the fuel or drain the gas tank
